The Founder

Sundae Spiers, founder of Why Wood Works first conceived the idea during a maternity break with her first child; being a new mum she became one of the many, frequent on-line shoppers. This is where she came to realised, that there was no single place where she could buy quality, eco friendly furniture and toys, and that very few products, manufacturers and suppliers 'did what they said on the tin'.

The overall experience was poor, resulting in some or all of the following:

Products not being delivered on time

Companies selling products they didn't hold in stock

Companies taking payment for orders they were not able to fulfil

Products arriving damaged

Returns, refunds and/or replacements almost impossible to attain

The overall customer experience was poor, costly and time consuming

My goal is to bridge this gap in the market, to offer customers quality, eco friendly childrens toys and furniture and high levels of customer service - is this too much to ask, I don't think so.

Passionate about this opportunity, I spent almost a year conducting research on products and manufacturers. The focus was eco friendly, childrens toys and furniture made from sustainable sources and manufacturers that adhered too strict manufacturing standards and guidelines. I wanted to partner with companies that cared about the environment, were known for their eco friendly ethos and produce some of the best quality wooden toys and furniture on the market. This would guarantee that all products available for sale, where eco friendly and safe for a child’s use or environment.

I knew what I wanted my customers to experience when shopping online, with this in mind I invested heavily in website design. I ventured into partnership with my partner's business, to secure sizable warehouse space and a first class shipping and logistics operation; this way I could ensure that stock would always be held on-site, to be shipped next day and customers would not be disappointed.
